I couldn’t hear exactly what the admiring male audience member called out to Emilie Autumn at the Murray Theater last night, but it sounded a bit like, “I want to fuck you.”
Her response, like all her statements during the two-and-half-hour performance, was timed for maximum effect. “Are you drunk?” she asked the crowd. “OK, just wondering. Because someone out there seems to think I like boys.”

“The Mercy Seat” and “Hancock County” have some obvious things in common. They were both written in 2002 by men educated at BYU who went on to much renown, and each play was recently performed by a local college. Their subject matter, however, couldn’t be more different. After hearing about The Blaze's wine-tasting party this morning, I left the radio station's studios (where Amy and I had been making on-air appearance to talk about this week's issue of IN) and headed straight to Diva's cupcakes & coffee (1560 E. 3300 South) for a little pick-me-up. There are certain moments of live theater that I will never forget, and one of those is Jayne Luke's performance as Fraulein Schneider in last year's production of ''Cabaret'' at the Egyptian Theatre.
