Album Review: Carved By Glaciers, Lymbyc Systym

Carved By Glaciers Lymbyc Systym

For Fans Of » The Album Leaf, Letting Up Despite Great Faults

It can be difficult to describe with words an album that has so few of them. Nevertheless, writing about Lymbyc Systym is a pleasure. "Carved By Glaciers" is a gripping piece of atmospheric instrumentation, both electronic and organic. Generally midtempo, the record is filled with moody layers of keyboard-driven sound. Rather than follow the usual electronic tradition of building ever upward, these songs expand laterally, taking time to meander and shift. Singling out specific tracks for praise is a challenge because the album plays more like a soundtrack than a collection of singles. However, "Lotan Baba," with its Eastern-tinged intro, is instantly memorable. And the remix of "Selamat Pagi," with vocals added by American Analog Set, is the perfect closer.
