Scene in SLC: Wild Bill Hill
Posted 2009-10-05 13:21:35 by Amanda Chamberlain
You've probably seen William "Wild Bill" Hill standing front and center of both local and touring shows, snapping pictures with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. His leather vest gives away his penchant for rock 'n' roll and motorcycles, the latter of which aids him in carrying the flag for Bikers Against Child Abuse. He's a proud media guest at Salt Lake City, Junction City and Wasatch Derby Girl matches, as well as a veteran and a member of SGI International, a Buddhist association for peace, culture and education. He's been rockin' out since day one (his mother was a pianist), and he considers himself Warped Tour alumni due to his close association with its producers and bands. Now, get to know Utah's biggest fan even further with the following interview.
Where were you born and how long have you lived in Utah? Woodbury, New Jersey. I have resided and called Utah my home for 21 years. Hell yeah, 801!
Occupations: Professional Observer Of Nature, Photographer, Promoter, Fond Lover of Fine Women, Road Dog from Hell, etc.
You always have your camera with you. Why is that? If a picture is worth a thousand words, I have over 32,000 published pictures. Each one is a moment of my life I wish to share with others: those who don't get to a concert, who want a good picture of their Idol musician. I enjoy my life as a spectator.
Have you been published? I have been a guest contributor to Bad Kat mag out of Buffalo, New York and also a standing contributor of Prick Magazine.
What do you feel are your greatest accomplishments? Asking the chief of police for a raise for the Salt Lake police force. I have courageously, as an individual, strived to eradicate prejudice and racial bias in "my" world. We are spiritual beings in a human experience. We all are of one spirit! Helping the poor and unfortunate homeless in our city (what if God was one of us?). Being in a Salt Lake City band, The Bachelors (1989-1995). Working for IATSE Stage and Theatrical Union. Working for Contemporary Services Concert Security. Working for the 2002 Olympics transportation. Having Lynyrd Skynyrd play my wedding night free of charge.
What are some local entities you support? I have a special spot in my heart for all-ages shows to give the younger fans a chance to become enlightened in the music field. I also support IATSE Local Stage and Theatrical Union, Club Vegas, United Concerts and all the other venues that bring music and entertainment to our city. And our visiting world-famous bands think SLC is one of the best IATSE unions in the WORLD!
What's one of your favorite memories? Mom 'n' Dad taking us to Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey to see headlining bands. Dad bringing parts of the Lunar Excursion Module home for show and tell. Knowing Dad was decorated by General George Patton. Mother loving me.
You have some pictures with some really famous people. Who are some of your famous friends? Ted Nugent, Steven Tyler
I saw your pictures of local homeless folks on your MySpace profile. What is your experience with homelessness? I am environmentally challenged as an individual and live in a Special Needs ward of The Road Home/ Economic instability and my illnesses have made me resort to living in a shelter. I have been homeless for 13 months.
Is there a message you want to portray about homelessness? We are beings just like the rest of the world. We have just fallen on hard times. The public has turned their back on us, and make us seem like outcasts. What happened to the Ship of Fellowship?
What's your favorite tattoo? My Paratrooper Jump Wings on that I drew and tattooed on my right arm.
You sure do love women! What's your idea of the perfect woman? I was raised a Mommy's boy. Mother taught me to respect women as beautiful intelligent beings who are very important people in our lives. A perfect woman? Please don't go there, Amanda...
What else would you like our readers to know? Remember to help the servicemen who have fought and died for your freedom that you have today.
Wild Bill, 56, was recently diagnosed with cancer and three other debilitating diseases. Club Vegas is throwing a benefit party for him on Nov. 15 to help raise funds for his funeral expenses. www.myspace.com/buddabilly
