We learned about White Rock Willie when one of our photographers spotted him eating dinner at Buca di Beppo while dressed in full pirate regalia. Upon investigation, we discovered that Willie became well-known for regularly dressing like this in the seaside town of White Rock, British Columbia. "My pirating ways are all about fun for the public, not for profit," he explained, adding that he moved to Utah in August to search for lost gold in the Great Salt Lake.

How often do you dress like this? I wear clothes all the time. Isn't it illegal not to?

How did you become a pirate? I abandoned the British Navy a long time ago and hooked up with me cousin, Captain Jack. He taught me everything I know about piracy, and everything about The Code. It sure beats the discipline aboard the naval vessels and is so much more fun. Thank God for freedom, eh?

How did you escape from the 17th century? Well, the crew, me ship, and I were supposedly transported through time, thanks to an incredible hurricane-like storm. Not sure how that works, honestly. Maybe someone at NOAA can explain?

Where and when did you land after you traveled through time? Strangely enough, the first place I remember making shore was in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada -- thus the name, "White Rock" Willie -- that was around the year 2006, I think...

What brought you to Utah? The interstate! Ha ha!

What sort of home have you made here? Well, without a ship, I decided to purchase a town home, to which I just recently moved. Did you know there's a White Rock Beach on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake? Maybe I should move there!

How is the marauding around Salt Lake City? Not bad, actually.

What do you do when you're not searching for gold? I like to stir it up amongst the locals, take long walks, get some pictures with kids and their families, eat pizza and drink rum, of course!

How does 21st century Utah compare to other places and times you've experienced? Honestly, it's good. The people are friendly enough, it's true, but I miss the sea. No complaints, though!

Where's a good place to shop for pirate clothes around here? Err ... I honestly don't know, luv! I've already enough clothes!

What are some of the most interesting questions you've been asked by confused landlubbers? I often get asked, "Where's the party?" I usually respond with some smart comment along the lines of, "Don't you know? I AM the party!"

What do you like best about being a landlocked, time-traveling pirate? It is what it is, I'll give ya that. Without the sea and without a ship, it's been a humbling experience. Although there ARE some perks, like Costco, Playstation 3, and Zeponie Pizza!!!

What do you find the most frustrating about living in modern-day culture? Everyone is in a bloody hurry all the time. Slow down and enjoy life -- you only get one shot at it, so appreciate what's around you, especially family and friends.

Do you think you'll ever assimilate into our society and give up your pirating ways? Err ... hmmm ... aaaah ... NO.

What are your future goals? To one day do something substantial to support our veterans and to support the Humane Society ... that is, without being sued by the Disney Corporation!

William you are something else. I am glad to know you haven't out grown this kick, that always brings a chuckle and it reminds me also of the old version of Peter Pan. When they would sing, "I won't grow up... It does my heart good!!
