Album Review: S/T, Letting Up Despite Great Faults

S/T Letting Up Despite Great Faults

For Fans Of » The Album Leaf, Postal Service

Letting Up Despite Great Faults is the mostly-solo project of Los Angeles musician Michael Lee. Though Lee is a trained pianist, his affinity for classical composition is trumped by a love of electronic music.

Letting Up's first full-length release picks up right where their nearly-perfect EP "Movement" left off -- layers of lo-fi synths, piano lines, and drum loops. The only difference here is the increased use of vocals. Lee never steals the spotlight, preferring to leave his voice low in the mix, but the vocals are present, and welcome, on nearly every track. Though the album is more about atmosphere than singles, it closes with the ultra-catchy "Release," a track that would be the perfect soundtrack for a teenage romance.

If you haven't already, this is a band you should definitely check out.
