Album Review: Miike Snow, Miike Snow

Miike Snow Miike Snow

For Fans Of » Peter Gabriel, Passion Pit

Who names their kid, Miike, with two i's? Apparently no one. There is no dude named Miike in this band, it's just a name for a project by singer Andrew Wyatt and Swedish producers Chris Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg -- the guys who produced Britney Spears' "Toxic." After years of working with the likes of Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and Ms. Spears, one might expect a record by Karlsson and Winnberg to be filled with dance floor anthems. Instead, the Miike Snow debut is a collection of more subtle indie dance rock, à la Vampire Weekend. The album's best moment is its opening track, the bouncy afro-pop ditty, "Animal," followed closely by the OK Go-esque "Song for No One." Elsewhere, the record is pleasant enough, but the falsetto vocals and abundant synthesizers fail to produce truly memorable moments.
