Cover Story: 2010's Bride To Be: Mara Marian
Posted 2010-01-05 11:07:01 by Amanda Chamberlain

IN's Cover Bride: Mara Marian

Wedding Date» 9/11/10

Groom » Jordan Harwood

How did Jordan propose?

I had been out of town for a week visiting my best friend, Jess, in New York. Jordan picked me up from the airport in Salt Lake and I was exhausted and not expecting it at all. Jordan and I loaded my luggage into the trunk and as I was turning to get in the car Jordan got down on one knee in front of everyone. He made a big speech that I cannot recall at all with the exception of the end when he grinned huge and said, "well, I love you... so what do ya say? Will you marry me?" Everyone around us started clapping and lots of people shook our hands. People took pictures and some guy even opened my car door for me and told me how fun it was to watch.

How long did it take you to plan your wedding?

Not long, maybe a month. I wasn't one of those girls who's had it planned since birth, but I know what I like. I plan events for a living, so it was fun and easy.

Are you having a big wedding, or a small one?

Big, we want a big party!

What are your colors?

We are going really classic and clean with black and white with just a little bit of turquoise as an accent.

What's your entertainment: DJ, band, or other?

We're going to have a DJ, to go along with the cool lounge Jordan is putting together for our reception.

What were you going for as an overall theme/atmosphere for your wedding?

Our number one priority was that our guests have fun. FUN was our major concern when making decisions throughout our planning process. Colors, linens, florals and décor are generally not the aspects guests will typically remember, although those all make up part of the experience at the time. We focused more on the bar, the entertainment and the food. If people had fun, they will always say it was a great wedding.

Tell me about what you'll be wearing on your wedding day:

I am doing two gowns from Alta Moda Bridal, both are Pricilla of Boston. I am wearing a long gown for our ceremony and a short wedding gown for the reception. I wanted to be sure to be comfortable during the reception so I could have fun dancing and celebrating with our friends and family. My long and fitted wedding gown just isn't practical to wear for six hours, so that's why I opted to do two gowns.

Who are some of the vendors you'll be using?

I have had so much fun planning the wedding because of all the amazing people I have been lucky enough to work with along the way. Mary at La Caille, Carrie at Carrie's Cakes, Rachael at Roots Floral, Russ with Victoria James Photography, and the entire team at Alta Moda Bridal.

What's been the toughest part about planning your wedding?

It's truly been so much fun, budgeting has been the toughest part by far. It's hard to plan the biggest event of your life and know when "enough is enough."

When it comes to wedding costs, what is your philosophy?

If you can't afford every detail of your dreams, just remember your friends and family are there to celebrate with you... like I said before, just have fun- the linens don't matter : )

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding?

That I get to marry best friend and when it's all over and we go to bed that night I will be "Mrs. Jordan Harwood."

Where will you go on your honeymoon?

Somewhere warm where I can relax in a bikini for a week! We'll be exhausted after our big party!

What advice would you give to future brides?

Focus on fun. Forget everything else, it's YOUR day!
