This Week IN Comics: Trade in Your Farmville for the Pirate Club
Posted 2010-03-15 14:09:25 by Elias PateFor In This Week
Gone are the days of slacking off by way of computer Solitaire. No, us sad computer jockeys are lucky enough to have had a cottage industry sprout up around us providing innumerable ways and means in which to waste time and fill the all too frequent gaps in our productivity at work and at school. But I submit to you that even time wasted is precious and there is a right and wrong way to go about it, so cancel your Farmville account and open a fresh tab for PirateClub.com.
Not content to simply hold real estate on the counter next to your toilet, Salt Lake City's very own Derek Hunter has taken his funny pages to the Inter-Webs for all slackers to enjoy while their bosses aren't looking.
For those unfamiliar with Pirate Club (published by Slave Labor Graphics), think back to a simpler time when slacking off meant tree houses, slingshots, scuffed up knees and a blatant disregard for personal safety, social grace or common decency -- also known as childhood. Then imagine those fond memories as seen through the eyes of Snake Plissken, John McLane or RoboCop. That's Pirate Club.
Gallows humor, the nostalgia of youth, Suburban Warfare and anarchy in the streets is the recipe that makes Pirate Club the perfect escape from the pathetic form of indentured servitude that your job/life has become. The juvenile delinquents of Pirate Club seem to scream from the page for you to cast off your shackles and throw a rock at a cop's face or at least pee in the boss' coffee pot just to remind you what it was like when you were free.
Skip Farmville and visit the Pirate Club before they burn down your barn, murder your sheep and make off with the farmer's daughter. You've been forewarned.
